Trip to the French alps with the Jumelin family

Last week Vanessa and I traveled to France to spend New years eve with the Jumelin Family. To say we have the best time with them is a huge understatement. The best times of our lives were spent with these guys. They took us to the french alps for some skiing, crazynight parties, and conversations that will change our lives forever. Thanks to the most positive, fun, and awesome family we know for another wonderful trip.. Below are a couple photos from the time we spent with them.

We stayed in really nice cabin in the mountains and this was the view out the window. So breathtaking.. It was nothing like I had ever seen before..

This man taught me how to snow board , live life, and everything else that involves living life with a smile on your face. Alex is my boy for life.

Day 3 in San Diego..

My last day in San Diego was super tight. My homie Gabe Kad showed up & surprised me to hang out & ride all day. It was so dope to ride & catch up with this guy. I love him.

The rest of my day was jammed packed with video interviews, filming, & just riding with the boys around campus. Today was a blast. Thanks to Vanessa Stone for taking great care of me on this trip.

After my demos the wifey & I headed to the biggest zoo in the USA. It was a fun time for sure. 3 hours of animal watching was just what I needed. Hhaha.

On day 20 of my tour I stopped at the University of Kansas. I received an email from Flat rider Jerry Milborn saying that a rider from China goes to school there & wanted to ride with me. oK Let’s do it then! I contacted him and the sesh was on!

It turned into a dope session and Zunwu is a really talented rider! He also plans to enter Voodoo Jam & Jomopro next year so watch out! This guy is awesome! I had a really fun time riding with him, Jerry, and the whole KC BMX scene tonight. Day 20 is a rap. Tomorrow I am headed to Nebraska!

Today I had an appearance at Charmcity skate park in Baltimore. I was very stoked on how many flatland riders that showed up to ride with me. It was tight.

By Far the coolest thing that has happened on this tour is this guy in the photo above! He is a flatland rider & trails rider named Matt Gilman. He is Blind and still rides his bike!! The past 2 days I have been on Virginia tech college riding on campus. This was the college they had that crazy shooting at in 2006 so it was pretty wild. Crazy Wal-Mart tour in NJ!

I Just returned from New Jersey for a wild little Wal Mart tour. Red Bull set up demos for me at 2 different locations. It was great because many riders showed up to watch the shows from hearing about it online through my Twitter, Facebook, or an online site. I was pretty stoked.

At each location the event was promoted really well with some posters, Red Bull display, and even a TV playing some flatland videos.

Scott OBrien came alone to MC and really rocked the house. Rad having this guy there to hang with and bring the good vibes at the shows.

After the last demo was over I picked someone in the crowd and gave them a brand new Flatware Waltz bike complete with all my signature parts.

This guy Jason drove over 3 hours to watch the demo so we decided he deserved it the most. Congrats man I hope you like the bike. I was super pumped to give back to flatland so thanks to Red Bull & Dans comp for hooking that bike up for the give away!

During the demo I gave of out these Pro Skin Performance Bands to the crowd as well. Thanks to my new sponsor for sending them.

After the demos were over it ended with a pretty big autograph signing. It was pretty cool to pump these kids up and hook them up with some dope posters!

Once again the coolest part of this trip for me was one of the biggest legends in BMX came out to session after the shows were over. Kevin Jones son!

After talking with Kevin Jones this past weekend I got really inspired by a ton of things he said to me. He made me realize that this life of riding a bike never has to end. I asked how old he was and his response was ” I am 44 years old, and if you want to find me I will be out here riding for at least the next 20 years. Not only did Kevin pave the road for modern flatland today but is honestly a living riding legend that just loves riding bikes. I posted this video above because it gives you a great sense of how much skill this guy has on a bike. Because of him, Flatland is what it is today! Respect Big Daddy.

The contest just ended in York, PA . It was awesome and as you can see the crowd was pretty dope as well!

I was really stoked how I rode with 2 flawless runs in the finals. Matt and Dane killed it as well. Directly from the airport we drove to the Jam spot. I had not ridden in this lot since the York Jam in 2000. Wow it’s crazy how time flies.

Well, here it is! Each dollar people donated to Japan was represented with one strip of paper with the donator’s name on it. We then took the names and dumped it into our incubator, turned on the fan and then plucked the winner from the swirl of paper. Today, I announced the winner for the Painting Raffle!

A HUGE thanks goes out to everyone who donated and helped out with the relief effort. In the end, we ended up raising $2068! A huge shout out goes to KIPP school in LA for being the largest contributor.

So I just returned from one of the raddest demos I have ever done. It was in Minneapolis for the “Poptarts front row event inside the Mall of America. Peep the photo.. Such a cool thing to be apart of.

I did a ton of interviews all day.. Some of them included me answering questions that kids posted on the Poptarts Front Row website. I will post them soon.

I was really pumped to see this guy show up wearing my signature Raising Canes shirt. He is a dope flatland rider that lived near the Mall. Thanks for rolling out Dale!

This kid showed up with my RIDE BMX cover for me to sign. I thought he looked young to have a magazine from 2006 .. So after I asked… He told me he bought it from a yard sale.. Thats tight.

So many people watched this demo. It was pretty crazy for sure. I was excited to be apart of this event and hope I can do some more in the future.

I ended the day with a autograph signing and then headed directly to the airport with “The Duke”. Now I just made it home and the airline lost my luggage. Story of my life.. 5th time this year. ahhhhhh… Leaving on Monday.. Hope I get my bike soon!

Today I arrived in Minneapolis to get ready for a pretty big show that will happen inside the Mall of America for the Poptarts front row event tomorrow.

I brought The Duke along with me as a second rider. The mall is like 5 stories high and the crowd should be amazing tomorrow. Tonight me and John had the chance to test out the floor for about an hour. Its dope!

Not sure if you have ever heard whats in this mall.. They have a freaking entire amusement park. You better believe I am riding this Roller coaster tomorrow! More updates to come! Hope some of you can make the show tomorrow. Peace!

3 days ago I flew into Newark to do a couple demos in front the Red Bull Arena before a big game. The weather was a bit shady but I managed to get in 2 demos before the storm. Crazy I was just in Newark 2 weeks ago.. Back back again..

Riding while DJ dirty finger spinning all day.. Yeah you heard me right… DJ dirty finger. Crazy DJ name right? haha

So this morning I woke up and jumped on a 6am flight to Portland, OR..(6 hour flight) I jumped off the plane and went directly to this high school to talk to the students about being a pro BMX rider. They were super stoked! Especially since it was a “Sports Marketing” class.

So now the plan for Portland is to ride in a bunch of locations around the city and let the BMX riders and who ever else come out and watch.. Red Bull has posted a bunch of fliers around the town with my Twitter so people can find out where I am riding. So with all that said.. I gotta go ride… Today is gonna be tight!

Orlando demo with Degroot!

I did a RedBull demo today in Orlando, Florida. Chad Degroot was nice enough to come out to the show and be my MC. I was pretty stoked for sure. Before the demo chad filmed me for some website. Fun times..

Before the show Chad warmed up by screaming in peoples faces. It was pretty rad to have this guy as my MC considering that he could learn all my tricks in 5 minutes. Chad is most definitely a living flatland legend. I looked up to this guy growing up and still do! Family man, super dad, rider, bike company owner, and the list goes on! Chad kills it!

Chad made this cheat sheet on his hand with my career highlights to help him during the demo. Pretty funny. He did a great job. Thanks homie

I Met Scott O”brien around 14 years ago. One of my first encounters with him was at a BMX contest held at a skatepark in New Orleans. He had just got back into riding and entered the contest wearing an Afro wig. I thought to myself ” this guy has talent and he is a lil crazy”. After the contest was over I noticed Scott was the person handing out the awards. I then realized that he was the guy that organized the entire contest. At that moment I knew he had a very strong love for flatland but I must admit, I never would have expected the impact he was going to make in the coming years around the world in the flatland contest scene. Scott kept riding and developed a crazy original style. I had always been impressed by his motivation to keep progressing as a rider. Not only did he become a part of our scene but a father figure for a couple of us. Driving us to contest, jams, and events all over the states. It was some of the best times of my life for sure!

In 2004 after Flatland was dropped from the “X-Gaymes” Scott started brain storming ideas to really put flatland back in the spot light. His idea was to put a contest in a night club with him as the MC, have the audience very close, and end the finals with a 3 man battle. It sounded simple but let me tell you this, that contest pretty much changed the whole game. Voodoo Jam was born and Scott’s passion for flatland really shinned on the floor as an MC to say the least. He had a special way of letting the crowd know that they were looking at something epic. When they were at his event, the roof was going to blow off and the riders were going to get the respect they deserved! If the the riders pulled their hardest tricks they knew Scott was going to jump kick them right on that floor. It was definitely a breath of fresh air to see such a different style contest.

After Voodoo Jam Scott became the MC everyone wanted. He went on to MC the BMX Masters, Ninja Spin, Flatground, RedBull 14, 5 Voodoo Jams, Battle at the beach, Ground force, and a hand full of other events around the world. He made a huge mark in flatland and in my opinion really changed the way organizers run their events today.

The past 2 years Scott has taken a break from riding and MCing contest to focus on the other great things his life has going on. His family and being there for his kids has been keeping him pretty busy. He has been a Football and Baseball coach for his sons very successful teams.

I wanted to take a moment to thank Scott for taking me on all my first trips, helping me with so much advise growing up, and for some of the best memories in my life. It’s much appreciated homie. I put together a couple questions for Scott to Answer about being an MC, father, Fire fighter, and rider. Please enjoy people!

First off, How many years have you been involved in BMX?
Off and on for about 25 years.

Seems like these days there is definitely not an age cut off with riding flat. Guys like Pete B, Chad J, Jesse P, Trevor M, and Alex J, just to name a few are still riding super hard. Seems like they are never gonna stop!! Whats your thoughts on all the riders that are in their late 30s early 40s still pushing the limits of their riding? I don’t think there should be any limits in life. Do what you can and take advantage of every day. These guys are incredible that you mentioned and there are plenty more out riding that are not pro’s but enjoy Flatland and still do it. We do have to give props to these guys because they are doing it at such a high level and also recognize those that only ride once a week because of family and work.

I pass by multiple softball fields with plenty of men the same ages as these guys and they are playing their respective sports at these ages as well.
Being active at these ages is very important to your mental and physical health so you should try to push yourself at all ages. I plan on being the best golfer and busting on some golf guys when i’m like 60.LOL….

You were a organizer of the biggest contest in the USA for 5 years, What was the hardest part, most rewarding part, and most importantly your motivation behind it? Hardest part is soliciting sponsors and getting the funds to do a quality event. But the real hardest part in when riders from the USA do not show up. I know things are tuff for some people but there is always a way to make things happen. Come to Voodoo!

Rewarding part knowing that the riders appreciate what we have done and spectators really enjoy the event. People that have no idea what Flatland is come to Voodoo and never forget it. I would also like to think that what we have done with Voodoo since 2004 has really pushed the limits of Flatland and still is today in other competitions.
My motivation has always been Flatland. Having an outlet to promote Flatland and giving us riders the very best stage to show what we do.

After you MCed Voodoo Jam in 2004 you pretty much traveled the globe as an international flatland MC. What was your favorite moment on the contest floor? Wow, so many favorites I could list 20 at least, but one that stands out a lot is York Uno in Amsterdam at Flatground 2005 I believe. Big contest, great stage and a lot of people. He was doing some new kinda turbine stuff and I went nuts and started to slap my jacket on the floor the crowd was going crazy for what he was doing. It was great and York got 3rd at that contest and he was so happy as I was for him as well. He is a life long friend and I will always remember that night.

Over the past 2 years you have taken a little break from riding to be a coach/sports mentor for your son Cam. How much time did that take up and do you see yourself coming back to riding full force anytime soon?
Actually its been about 3 years. Balancing life can be difficult at times but I did take time off from riding to focus on my personal and family life. For me personally I had to do that because in the past my riding would take a lot out of me. So I needed to step back and re balance life a bit. I do plan on riding back full force but it may just be a little bit more chill then how hard I use to ride.

You have been a firefighter, father, rider and had your hands in many things since I have known you. Do you think being such a busy guy has helped your motivation for riding in any way? Yes it has helped me, being busy is the way I am. I freak out if I have nothing to do and I walk around my house bothering everyone. I laugh at myself at times when I am not busy because I have no idea how to do nothing. Im not good at doing nothing.

The biggest question that everyone wants to know is….. Will there be another Voodoo Jam contest?
Yes there will and it will be the best one ever. We gonna work hard to make it happen and every single Flatland rider from the USA will attend because they know they should be there. Also, my kids are begging me because they want Matthias and Ucchie to come over again. LOL!

Any Last words?
I want to let all the riders know that allowed me to emcee for them that I appreciate and thank you guys for everything. You have all motivated my life and opened me up to so much in this world. My family and I have been influenced by your cultures, your way of life and your riding. Thanks so much to you all!!!!

Today I arrived in Newark for a couple RedBull demos in New Jersey. When I first arrived the folks at the airport had my bike bag locked up in this room and it took over 1 hour for them to find the key.. hmmmmm…. Really!

The demos were at 2 a Mexican restaurant’s for some wild beer drinking, sparkle shirt wearing, and a ton of Jersey peeps out celebrating Cinco De Mayo.. The demos were pretty chill and I did not get beat up my a muscle guy so I guess they went ok! haha

The best part of this trip for me was that “Erin Donato showed up to watch my last 2 demos. She is pretty humble to say the least. This girl is the top female legend rider in the world ! Such good conversations with her today. Thanks to Keith at Red Bull for everything and every dude with a sparkle shirt that showed up. You guys rock!

I just took first place at the 8th annual Twilight contest in Athens, GA !! I was really stoked on the way I rode. It was definitely some very close results between me and Dane Beardsley. He rode flawless and had some some very hard combos. So I just want to say props to Dane! The top 3 results ended up like this…. 1st Me, 2nd Dane Beardsley, and 3rd was Isaiah Jordan. I wanted to give Props to John Dowker for putting on this rad event! The crowd was awesome and flatland was showcased very well so that is what counts! Such a dope contest!

This morning we left at 6:30am for the long drive to Athens, GA for the Twighlight contest. My crew was pretty tight. My wife Vanessa, Mini pimp, and myslef!

With the 11 hour drive I decided to make an iphone edit from the entire trip. I will be editing this thing up in my editing lab and should drop this thing by early next week. So look out!

Fat’s Favorite Flatland Contributions

In 2006 I received a phone call from Fat Tony. He had asked if I was interested in doing an interview for ride UK magazine. It was obvious that he did not know me that well at the time. If anyone wants to shoot photos with me that end up somewhere, I am on it! That interview took us about two weeks to shoot. We shot photos threw water, fire, and even on the edge of buildings. Thanks to Fat that interview has been one of the highlights of my media coverage through out the following years. Since that interview Fat has really made a name for himself by bringing flatland to the media in many different ways. Not only has Fat had tons of photos of the top flatland riders published in Transworld Magazine. He has also made a dope flatland calendar for the past 3 years, done a ton of online articles that highlight flatland, and he has even started riding flatland himself. One thing that I have always respected about Fat is that he treats flatland just as another part of BMX. He recognizes the potential it has, has a ton of respect for all the riders, and truly cares what the future holds for our sport. Its great to have industry guys in BMX that really respect what we do. I had Fat send over some of his favorite flatland photos, articles, and a look at his past calendar projects. Little Fan Gets His Finger Bike!

About a year ago a kid named Jacob walked up to me in my local Wal-Mart with a toy finger bike and asked me to sign it. I signed it but explained to him that in a couple months they will have one made with my bike inside the box.. Since that day, Jacob and his mom has searched high & low for my toy and was unable to find it. Today their search is over. I met them at my riding spot with a my toy, my DVD, and some other goodies. Come to find out he is a huge fan and even watches flatland all the time. Jacob had some teeth pulled this morning.. Hope you feel better soon little buddy!

After I posted the Justin Miller interview I received over 100 messages from e-mails, tweets direct messages, and from facebook from riders around the world saying thanks and to tell Justin that they miss watching him ride. As you can see above, Global flat had over 40 post and still growing… I think it is safe to say that the flatland world wants this guy back. Below I added a couple messages from riders and what they had to say. Bottom line is… Justin is a bad ass! No joke.

Thought it was necessary to post all this so we can get this guy back on his bike. Some people in world are blessed with an unbelievable amount of talent. Justin Miller Interview!!

I met Justin in 2002 at a CFB contest in Joliet, IL. I needed some air in my tire and asked to borrow his pump. At the time Justin was competing in the expert class. To be completely honest he was not a stand out rider at the time. He hung in the back of the lot riding alone, seemed pretty shy, and its safe to say no one thought in just 2 years he would make a mark so deep in the scene that his name would never be forgotten. Two years later I traveled to Japan with Justin for the KOG contest that he took a well deserved 1st place in the expert class. I can remember watching his run and thinking to myself, how will I ever beat this guy when he turns pro? Funny I thought that because he then turned pro and whooped my ass at just about every contest on the map. He took the win at the BMX Masters, Voodoo Jam, and even grabbed a NORA Cup in those years as well. It was obvious Justin was not at these contest for making friends. He was there for business, for blood, he was there to win!

I traveled all over the globe with him from 2004 through 2008. We became the best of friends and have shared some of the best moments in life together. As most of you know Justin left the scene completely about 3 years ago. I still speak with him just about everyday. The only difference is we never talk about riding anymore. We speak about everything but riding bikes. It’s hard for me to not ask him about flatland because I often wonder if he will ever ride again. Sometimes I will ask him, you know that you are the most talented contest rider that ever lived right? He always replies with “shut-up, no I am not”. Justin and I have completely different personalities and that’s what’s so great about life. You meet people that are so different from yourself and then that person ends up being one of the closet friends you will ever have. You better believe it was a fight to get him to do this interview. Sorry for bugging you man. I had to. It is just the way I am. Enjoy!!

These days you have your own Construction Company, How much time does that take up of your life? It takes up my whole day. From the time I wake up to when the sun goes down I am either doing a job or cleaning up the trailer getting ready for the next day.

What kind of things do you do on a daily basis for work?
I’ll do anything to make money. We do a lot of foreclosure stuff and I’ve shoved shit out of toilets and bath tubs, cleaned up dead animals, cleaned roach and flea infested homes, and even installing crown molding in a 700,000 dollar house. It doesnt matter to me as long as Im working.

You also own a ton of houses in your town for rental properties. How many houses do you have and did winning flatland contest help buy any of them? I dont own a ton of houses slick. I have a few houses. Yeah riding bought me my first house. Granted I had to take an equity loan out to finish the project but it got me started. The income from that house and a few more contests helped me buy my second one also. After that I wasnt making enough riding so I started doing construction and the rental business. Oh and by the way asking how many houses you have is like asking a woman her age or weight.

Everyone in the flatland world is wondering, Did you quit riding?
Yeah. I did knock over my bike yesterday trying to get the lawnmower out. Could not even tell it was a bike so much dust was on it. No seriously. I worked all year and maybe took 2-3 days off and I worked at my house on those days anyways. If I had the time to ride I still would but I have a good construction business and rental business and I need to keep those my top priority.

When is the last time you rode your bike?
Probably a year or more. If i did not have a lot of shit to do I would ride because I still like to do it.

Where is your bike?
In my barn by the roofing tools. Probably covered in dust.

Its no secret that you made a huge mark in the flatland scene with winning the NORA cup, winning countless contest around the globe, and dialing some of the hardest tricks that has ever been done on a bike. When you think back about all those victories, Which one are you most proud of?
I am proud of them all. I liked being able to see my hard work pay off. I really did ride until I went crazy!! lol. It really takes a lot to be on top and to stay on top with not much support. I was never one to do camera interviews or any sort of attention. I really dont like it!

In my opinion, You will always be one of the best contest riders that has ever touched a bike. What about riding contest did you enjoy the most?
The feeling of riding for 2 months everyday pulling your tricks everyday and being able to go to a contest in front of hundreds of people and be able to do it just like I was in the parking lot.

I can remember countless times traveling to contest with you. I was always scared because I knew if you rode bad that you would be in a pretty bad mood for the rest of the trip. Why were you so hard on yourself if you did not ride perfect? To me if i did not ride good it just ate me up inside. It really pissed me off. I broke a lot of bikes and parts because of the stress leading up to contests. I even got shingles because I would scream so loud and get so stressed out. When you do tricks eveyday and all of a sudden one day you can’t pull them it really bothered me. I am a freak I know! I would spend 3 hours on one, 5 in a row combo because if I didnt pull it I’d be so pissed off the rest of the day. Also back then I did not have travel expenses paid. When a plane ticket costs 1300 bucks and 1st place is 2000 there really isnt much room for error. If you want to be the best at anything its nearly impossible to work and ride full time. To take riding to that next level takes a lot of time and effort.

How many hours a day did you practice in 2005?
5-6. I remember some 7-8 hour days too.

What was your favorite trick you invented?

What was your best memory from traveling around the world going to flatland contest?
Seeing the world with you slick. I did a lot of cool things and saw a lot of cool places traveling with you.

Do you ever see yourself riding flatland again?
I do. I’ve been thinking about it more and more latly because no one can beat Matthias(execpt you). :) I dont know what all the kid are doing out there. They need to step it up and give him a run for his money or I am gonna have to come out of retirement!

Mickey Gaidos Is So Tight!

I Met Mickey Gaidos when I was around 11 years old. We met at a skatepark to ride together and that day 100% changed my life forever. I already rode BMX for years but it was mostly ramps and racing. After watching Mickey ride flatland with his friends completely mesmerized me to the point that I ate, breathed, and pooped flatland after that day.

Through the years I have stayed the closest friends with Mickey not only because of riding bikes, but from sharing some of the best memories of my life with this guy. One of my favorite memories about our friendship is watching videos over the phone together late at night to motivate us to go ride. We would say one, two, three, PLAY !! Then watch the video over the phone together getting more stoked than anyone could ever imagine. Those nights spent on the phone were so motivating not only for my riding but knowing I had a true friend that loved flatland as much as me was just so dope!

Around the year 2003 Mickey became super interested in Filming and Editing videos. Mickey has stayed riding flatland all these years but has Also continued to pursue a career in Film. I have been super impressed with not only the steady work he has coming in but also the quality of work has been completely amazing. So amazing that I even asked him to film and edit my movie “Dreams” that was released in 2008. To say I was happy with the film would be a complete understatement. Along with making my DVD Mickey has also worked on a ton of TV pilots, commercials, TV Shows, and even edited an entire feature movie.

Mickey has the type of grind and hustle that not many people have. His everyday schedule has consisted of juggling many different filming/editing projects at one time for as long as I can remember. With deadlines always approaching for every job he lands, Mickey is always a super busy dude. I must say the raddest thing about Mickey is no matter how much he has going on, He always finds time to ride. My most memorable sessions have been been with him riding through out the night and watching the sun come up.

This guy is prime example of someone taking what they love and making it their life. The amount of respect I have for Mickey as a rider, person, and filmier/editor can not even be put into words. I decided to do this blog post to showcase some of Mickeys favorite work that is online. Also I wanted to give a shout to him for all the hard work paying off. Congrats homie!!!

The goal of the DVD is to maximize and sustain behavioral changes in the community in hopes of reducing breast cancer vulnerability in low income, under-insured women non-adherent to mammography in New Orleans.

“We decided to participate in the contest 2 days before the deadline, therefore we wrote, shot and edited this short film in 48hrs. I had minimal input on the story; my task was to put the script on the screen, which I believe I achieved with minimal resources. As you’ll see in the credits we had a production crew of 3 including myself and I handled all of the Post-Production myself. I’m very proud of the production value we achieved on this short considering the time constraints and that is one reason why this film is on my top 3 list.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in this film, everyone brought they’re A-game to make this happen and it was one of the best experiences of any project making this short film.”

Yesterday I received some samples of my signature Odyssey/Flatware grip. The name of grips are the “Cuff Links”. I designed it to have a super comfortable feel from the beginning to end of the grip. After testing these samples yesterday I can honest say this grip is awesome!!!

These grips will be hitting the market in the next month or so. Look out for them. Send me some photos of them on your bike, lawn mower, or broom handle. I would be stoked to see that!!

Last night I won the Jomopro contest! I had some really hard battles with Tstomu Kitayama and then Matthias Dandois before making it to the final with Matt Wilhelm. Driving to Joplin… Such a long drive….

This morning we left my house at around 6:30 (am) for the Jomopro contest in Joplin, MO. This was my first long road trip in such a long time. I normally fly to every event but Matthias wanted to drive so since he is “From Fraaance!!” I said ok.

After only 1 hour of driving we saw a dope sign that said “Terry” and Decided to stop for a photo. Wow, That was such a BAD idea. Somehow we managed to get a huge nail in the tire while trying to see the sign. Bummer!

We were so lucky to have this guy stop and help us. With in 1 hour we were back on the road again! So after that moment we were really excited to hurry to the contest with no more unnecessary stops.

After 12 hours of non stop driving we finally just arrived in Joplin. We managed to get in 1 hour of practice on the contest floor before heading to the hotel. I am laying in bed updating this blog because “you gotta do, what you gotta do, when you gotta do! Tomorrow the beginner & expert class are happening. Can’t wait to see how these guys have progressed! Its gonna be a dope day tomorrow. Then the Pro contest is on Saturday. I will update.. You know this!

Early Morning Photo Shoot With Robby

This morning Me, Matthias, and Fat went into downtown Hammond for a wild photo shoot with my great friend Robby Klein. We actually dropped off Fat at a coffee shop first so he could use the internet to update the Transworld site. The photo shoot was pretty rad in a studio. We did a couple riding shots along with some fun portraits as well.

After the studio shoot we headed to an old motel so Robby could do a quick shoot with Matthias. A crazy lady came outside and told us that if we stay more than 15 minutes an old man was going to come outside and shoot us with a gun. This is no joke! More updates to come! Big City Park Jam Today!

Today I transported Fat and Matthias around all day for some crazy web videos and Photos. It was dope to sit back and watch these guys work. For me it was a nice to break to not ride and be a driver and a helper. I was a pretty good driver and flash holder. I even took some photos for Matthias blog! After all the crazy web shoots today we headed to City Park in New Orleans for a session with a ton of riders! OMG I was stoked on how many riders showed up! It was so tight! We rode many hours and so many dope tricks were pulled.

The highlight for me at the Jam was riding with Broc Raidford. This guy is the most legit street/park rider in Louisiana and he showed up to ride flatland with all of us! We were so pumped to watch him ride. As you can see in the photo above, He can do a hop whip higher than you and me!! SO HIGH! Bottom line.. TODAY WAS TIGHT!

I just arrived in South Florida for some crazy Red Bull show. I decided to bring the wife since today is our 2 year wedding anniversary! I have 2 days of shows then we are gonna do some relaxing and chilling on the beach.

When we arrived last night we noticed Red Bull put us in the sweet hotel. Whoa! The lobby was like the Jetsons! Huge iphone touch pads on the wall to check in. Dang Red Bull.

We just had a little breakfast in bed with the beach front view. It was yum yum. Time to get ready to ride this bike. More time machines and pinky sneakers. Bloggin!

Missing my friend Dickie Sanders…

A couple months ago I lost a great friend of mine. I had met him through flatland when he was just 15 years old. In the above video he is riding in Southern California. I am proud to say I took him on this trip and it was 100% one of the best times of his life. The memories I spent with Dickie on this trip will never be forgotten. The little clip of him riding brings me back to that sunny day of us riding on the beach.. I miss you so much man. I think of you everyday!! Words can not explain.

Birthday show!

This past weekend I did a special appearance at a kid named Carson’s birthday party. About 2 years ago I did a small show demo at this kids house. I found out later that he wrote a note in his journal that it was the best day of his life. After reading that letter I knew I had to make the trip back to his house for another performance. I rode for about 15 minutes for him and all his little homies. They were pumped.

Leaving the house I noticed the kids had wrote this in the driveway. Its rad to give these kids motivation in life. No matter what they decide to do in the upcoming years. Its awesome to show them that they can be anything they dream of.

As I walked out the kids house, Him and all his friends were piled up in this little room watching my DVD “Dreams” Definitely put a smile on my face. Looking forward to visiting this guy next year to see what he has going on.

Yesterday I arrived in Los Angeles and headed directly to the Odyssey office. I flew in to film a secret web edit that you guys should see pretty soon. I was pretty stoked to see all the final production FLatware “Waltz” frames up in the warehouse. Just so you know, only a few more left people. These things are selling like hot cakes so go git you one before they all run out. Such a dope frame.

Last night I stayed at Jim Bauer’s house and drove his 1981 Porche to the Office this morning. Actually we almost got into a bad wreck talking about Andrew Faris and heavy frames. It was a close call but we made it. That car is tight though right?

Chilling at Odyssey all sorts of guys stop by. Jimmy Levan came by to say what’s up and watch some flatland in front the office. So stoked this guy is my teammate. Maybe one day I will party with him. Guessing this guy can drink me under the table. LOL

After 2 hard days of filming I headed to ride at Studio City parking lot with Bobby Carter. I wanted to give a thanks to this guy for picking me up from the airport over 20 times in the last 8 years. Not too mention I am always welcome at the LAB. Yeah thats right. You heard me. The LAB. The above photo is Carter working on Stickmans at todays session. Love to see him pull this the next time we ride. Ok people.. Time to sleep… More secret filming tomorrow.

Today I did a pretty cool show for Red Bull in New Orleans. It was a pretty special demo for me because Scott O’brien came out to MC this thing. Been knowing this guy for ages and it was great to catch up with him. Of-course we did an excellent show for the crowd as well. Good to see his son (Cam) too! Scott has MCed Voodoo Jam, Ninja Spin, BMX Masters, Ground Force and many more. So its definitely a treat to work with this guy. Pumped for sure!

I did some pretty simple tricks in this demo so I will not bore you with those photos. You can take a gander of me pedaling though. That trick is called fixing my hat. HA HA HA… I am headed to Los Angeles tomorrow morning for a secret video shoot with Odyssey. Gonna be a dope trip. Keep checking back for more updates.

My riding spot 16 years ago was my moms driveway. I spent many years riding that tiny little bumpy driveway. In a huge way it made me the rider I am today. When I woke up this morning I had the idea of going to my moms and recreating a photo in the exact spot. I was 12 years old in the photo above.

First Place in Toronto!!

I just took first place at the CFO contest in Toronto, Canada!! I was super stoked to start my year off with this win.

The night before the contest Toronto snowed a little bit so we woke up to this winter wonderland the day of the contest.

On this trip I brought my beautiful wife Vanessa. Maybe she was good luck so I must take her to the next contest. This photo was taken on the trolly car on the way to the event.

I wanted to give a big shot out to Steve Lapsley for picking me up from the airport at 3 in the morning. Also all the rides to the contest while we were in town. You are the man homie. Steve is doing great things for flatland with the Am Flatland Circuit. This guy is dope. Thanks Bro!

I am super stoked that I am officially getting flow from Etnies. I am into this company for a number of reasons. I am a huge fan of the entire team, Its pretty obvious they stay true to BMX, and most importantly I honestly love the way the shoes feel on my feet. Here are some of my favorite books.

-The one at the top is “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” its a pretty dope book for anyone interested in earning money or gaining wealth. That book kind of changed my life. Its a great short read.

-The book “Flow In Sports” is a great read for anyone interested in competing in any sport. That book has helped me many times in competition. I would recommend it to any person that wants to achieve their highest level of focus,training, and results in any competition (Thanks to my old Redbull team manager for that book) Yeah Bebout!!

-My other favorite book in that photo is “Small Talk”. Its a great book about learning the skills to talk to anyone at anytime. I come across thousands of human creatures every year so that was a great book for me because it help me build the skills of starting and holding a conversation with just about anyone. Thats a good book people.

Over the past couple years Matthias has definitely been the guy to follow in Flatland. I must admit, I watch this guys every move. From his web edits, contest wins, and even the food he eats. I was on Glee!!!

As Most of you know, I was on the hit TV show Glee right after the Super Bowl. They showed about 5 quick clips of me in a 1 minute piece. This episode of Glee was seen by 26.8 million viewers and had an 11.1 adults 18-49 rating. This ranks as the highest-rated Glee episode ever and is the top-rated scripted telecast of any TV show in three years!!!! Super pumped BMX was in the mix!

Since the airing of the show I have received hundreds of text,Facebook message, and tweets about my appearance on the show. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that tuned in to watch!! I know a ton of BMX guys do not normally watch Glee so its awesome to have that support! Thanks guys!!

Trip to San Francisco, CA

I just returned from San Francisco, CA where I did 3 crazy demos in one night. The first one I was a guest performer at the Crunchie awards. The Crunchies is like the “Oscars” for technology companies. Just to give you an idea of how big the event was… The CEO of twitter was a quest speaker right before I performed. I was super stoked to be apart of this event & the entire event was streamed live on ustream.

Directly after I finished at the awards event I headed over to the Warriors NBA game. This was 100% the biggest flatland demo I have ever done in my riding career. It was in sane.

Of-course the crowd was stoked on the time Machine. Super Super wild demo. After the NBA game I headed to a hip hop club to ride. This was another wild Red Bull trip. In and out in 24 hours. Now resting back home in Hammond, Louisiana. Time to ride. Peace.

The night before the photo clinic I had a little riding session near the red carpet while folks were waiting to check out the Red Bull Illume event. My session turned into a short autograph sesh. The kiddies were stoked. That night turned into a crazy party. So wild. I love Red Bull.

About a month ago I was asked to go on a Red Bull trip that would consist of demos on a floating barge. It sounded wild so of-course I decided to come along. With flatland being so separated from the rest of BMX I really wanted to be apart of something that involved a couple different disciplines of 20 inch bikes. It was also an opportunity to get to know the rest of the Red Bull team. The line up was crazy.. Corey Martinez, Anthony Napolitan, Drew Bezanson, Daniel Dhers, Edwin Delarosa, & Criag Mast. With Micah Lucas Kranz on the Mic. I was super stoked to ride with the duders & to finally get to hang out with the guys that are in the same industry as me but on a whole different playing field. If that makes any sense. In the Above photo drew is whipping over me. Just wait to you see the helicopter shots :)

My room mate for the first part of the trip was Anthony. I learned a little bit about this Cat. He is funny as hell, talks in his sleep, takes poo photos, and is quite the ladies man for sure. Above is a little interview going down with the man himself.

First morning of the tour we were looking refreshed and healthy. That all changed.

The first night of the trip Drew and I were asked if we wanted to go meet Brooke Burke at some hotel event. ummmm. We never met her but we swindled our way on to the Red carpet. Thanks to Drew for eating pudding and getting us in the spotlight.

Corey Martinez busting a flatland session on my ride after a long cold day of riding. I must say, I was pretty impressed with all these guys flat skills. They can do sum shit fo sho. Not 2 toot my own horn but I did learn nose picks on a quarter pipe. Thanks coach for helping me along the way.

Corey caught a big fish that looked like a pancake on our deep sea fishing trip. Congrats to him and Anthony for Catching sum fish. Everyone else slept the entire 4 hours on the Million dollar yacht.

This is why we slept. It knocked us out cold. Thanks Ilana :)

All you need to know about our go-kart trip is that I am very slow at racing and Drew Killed Dhers on the track. As you can see, Drew did not let him or anyone forget it.

About 6 years ago I met a young kid named Boo Boo while in New York doing an appearance for a Macy’s runway show. During that show I became friends with Boo and even incorporated his martial arts performance with a part of my demo. I knew from the moment I spoke with him that he had an attitude for success. At such a young age he already had the business & communication skills of most people twice his age. I learned pretty quickly that Boo was determined to “want more” in life. In my eyes that is the greatest quality a person can have. Over the years I have stayed in touch with Boo and followed his success. He has had his own sneaker, was the lead actor in a hand full of films, Member of the T-squad hip/pop group that released an album by Walt Disney Records, And now he has landed a huge role in the last 3 movies from The Twilight Saga. I could spend all day listing his accomplishments but the point is… he is “winning at life”.

With all Boo Boo’s success he has stayed completely humble and is as down to earth as they come. He is a perfect example of what having a great family and support system can do for a person. I am honored to have met Boo Boo and in so many ways he has influenced my career as a professional athlete. One of the greatest things about BMX is that I get to meet so many different people around the world. Staying motivated and keeping your dreams alive is very important in life. Those are 2 things that is unquestionable about this young man. Really stoked to have him as a friend.

Lost a true friend Yesterday

About 7 years ago I met a young kid named Dickie Sanders. He somehow found my phone number and called me one day. The very first words out his mouth was he wanted to learn how to ride flatland. Shortly after that I set up a date to meet him at his local riding spot. When I rolled up he had a smile on his face that I will never forget. I soon realized after talking with Dickie that he was a special kid. He continued to ask me the same questions over & over . ” Terry how do you this trick?” After he asked me around 15 times I started to get frustrated.. I would say “DICKIE you just gotta keep practicing and then the tricks will come”!!

As crazy as I thought he was for asking me so many times. I was glad I keep screaming the answers back at him because I soon found out that he was starting to listen. My next trip to see Dickie he really took what I said to heart. He must of practiced more in that week of me not seeing him than most people ride in month. Because he was progressing at a level that I had never witnessed. I soon realized he was a “real” rider and was going to be around for quite sometime. I spent many days of summer driving to his local spot and riding with him until the sun went down. I can remember so many things from the sessions. Evey time I tried to leave, he would beg.. ” stay a little longer terry” “please” He never really understood the word “no” or “I can’t Dickie” He would just keep asking until he was blue in the face. I excepted the way he was and continued to ride with him. Brought him on trips to Texas and even all the way to California. The trip to California I remember so well . I showed him the time of his life!!! Riding at the beach and meeting the pro riders that he admired was an amazing experience for him. He was so stoked that he wanted to keep riding in the streets of Hollywood Blvd. after the sessions were over. I had to repeat over 10 times that it was not safe to ride on those streets before he finally sat back down with that big smile and said ” ok terry I understand your right”.. I realized on that trip that Dickie just wanted to be accepted. He knew he was different and flatland made him feel normal so that why he loved it. Riding BMX gave him an opportunity to meet so many different types of people with different types of personalities and that made Dickie realize he did not need to be anyone else but himself.

Dickie had a heart of Gold. Every holiday he would call with wishes. Every time he got off the phone he told me he loved me. Sometimes he called just to say he was lucky to have me as a friend. He was truly appreciative that I accepted the way he was. He cherished our friendship & he let me know that EVERYTIME we spoke. One time I was mad at him for about 3 days and I cant even remember why. But I do remember him driving to my house with roses and a box of chocolates to say he was sorry. It took him for 4 hours to find a house that was 40 minutes away. When I answered the door and seen him standing there I was in shock!! I smiled and said “Dickie are you CRAZY!!”? “you dont bring a man candy and flowers when he is mad at you” he said ” I do terry cause I love you”. In Dickies mind that was the right way of saying sorry and I will never forget that apology for the rest of my life.

Yesterday Dickie took his own life for reasons I never may know. I will never forget this very talented, very special, Big hearted, friend that I had. I loved him and will miss him very much. You are in our hearts Dickie. So happy to have known you. Rest in peace.

New bike

Jim Bauer visits Hammond

After returning from my trip in Chicago I had the privilege of housing my great friend Jim Bauer for 3 days. I was super stoked to hang out with this guy & show him around my little city of Hammond/Pumkin Center. The first day I took him to my local park for an early session. Above you see this nose wheelie Jim kept trying & “almost” got. Maybe next time he will get it, Little scary for an 8am sesh.

Jim even had a very long flatland session on my backyard spot. He almost landed this whiplash a couple times. I guess it would have helped with back pegs. I was pumped on how close he was coming. Next time I see this guy I hope to see this trick.

Wow, Jim looked pissed after his 3 hour flatland session. haha! He might of been tired from doing front flips into the grass out of that whiplash . It is so cool when 2 guys can session together on BMX no matter what discipline they ride. It is how it should be.. That is exactly what happened at my house. 2 guys getting loose on BMX bikes on a perfect sunny day.

Jim headed back to California yesterday & got a taste of the South. I was pumped this guy got to get some riding in on his trip out here. Even if it was a lot of flatland…. haha My next stop is Orlando, Fl I will give another update soon. Its time to go outside and enjoy the weather. PEACE.

Thought I would update you guys and let you know I had an amazing first pitch at that White Sox game last week. I was super stoked I made it right over the plate first try! The crowd seemed stoked !

It was super rad that they played me riding on the jumbo screen before my pitch & I did a live demo right before the 7th inning. BAABOOM!

I am on the road again for another crazy campus tour for Red Bull. Today I am in Dallas, TX hitting all the colleges that Red Bull brings me to. Its pretty rad! After this trip I head to California for a good 7 days. Then off the Chicago for a food marketing convention. Also look for me to throw the first pitch on TV at the whitesox game on 9/27!! Its gonna be a long month!

While in Dallas the RedBull folks were nice enough to take me over to the main Raising Canes office to visit my Chicken Finger sponsor. Always great to visit the marketing team & get a tour of the company that supports me. I was super stoked to see this photo that had of me hanging in their hallway!

After returning from my 3 week trip I had a UK camera crew waiting in Louisiana to film 2 days of my home life. They filmed everything from my office work, practice sessions, & even went out to eat with me at my local Raising Canes. Pretty cool stuff indeed! The episode will air in 100 different countries so look out for it!

I was stoked that my good friend Mickey Gaidos came out to session my backyard to show the Camera crew how I session with my boys. This episode is going to be tight!

Letting a camera in your house sometimes gets messy. I will post the segment when it gets online. Next stop Dallas TX for some Red Bull demos, Then California, then Chi-town.. ahhh travel life!

3 week RedBull college tour!! Crazy!

I am just wrapping up a 3 week Red Bull college tour . I hit so many colleges over the past couple of weeks. It was insane. Everywhere from NC, SC, Ohio, Indianapolis, Michigan, & OKC. This was probably the longest trip I ever taken. I must say, This was a true journey for me! Meeting college students & explaining to them how I have BMX my job was a true pleasure. A ton of riding went down, A ton of interviews, A little bit of filming, & even some party time. Check out the photos below to view a some of my journey.

I stopped over in Saginaw,Michigan to see my greatest friend Justin Miller. He put me to work 15 minutes after I arrived to pull some big concrete pieces out from under a tree. I love this guy & would get my hands dirty for him any day. Oh yeah if you wondering who Justin is.. He is the best flatland rider that ever lived. Just a taking a little break. :)

My crazy trip to California

I just returned from a 7 trip where I rode with the locals, shot photos with all the BMX magazines, hung out with my wife, & chilled with my friends from the west coast. It was so many photo & video shoots & it was even crazy for me! I have put together a couple of photos from my trip. peep em!

I shot a really rad street/flat edit for the ride BMX site. It took me a full day to film & I am really stoked on everything I pulled so look out for it.. Street mixed with flat is the new shit!

On this awesome trip I lost my new iphone 4 whale watching so thanks to my wife Vanessa for snapping pretty much all these shots on her phone for my blog update! Above is a photo of me riding at the Globe Spot in Long Beach with all the locals. After the session ended Fat Tony hosted a party at his house for the premier of my new DVD. Thanks to all the riders that came & thanks to Fat for hooking that up!

I did a crazy photo shoot with a high profile fashion photographer on this trip. The photos should be hitting a fashion magazine sometime in the fall. The photos turned out amazing & I even had my own stylist that gave me 6 wardrobe changes. It was super fun!

I stopped by Red Bull HQ to pick out some new hats & visit the company that has been supporting me since 2004. Thanks to everyone at Red Bull & ofcourse thanks to Ilana for giving me a tour. (again)

I was really stoked to bring my wife on this trip so she could enjoy the beach while I rode with the west coast flatland crew.. As you can see…. she loves the LA life!!

The Future.. Matthias Dandois

I have been meaning to do a special blog post about Matthias for a couple of weeks. After watching him ride today online live at the BMX Masters I knew it was time. I once read “ones that admire positive & successful people turn out pretty damn successful themselves” Its pretty obvious that Matthias had a great role model to look up too growing up over the past couple years (Alex).. But its not only his success as a BMX rider that I have noticed about Matthias. His drive, his passion, his attitude, & of-course his skills have impressed me each time I see him. I have been a true fan of this kid for so many reasons. Its been awesome to watch a rider make flatland look so marketable & hip just by the way he presents himself at every contest & media interview. It has honestly made me so proud to be a professional rider knowing that Matthias is out there making it look so dope! Matthias is the only person I have met that can sound confident in everything he says but also stays humble at the same time. Anyway, I just wanted to give this guy a shot out. He is doing great things for flatland & BMX for that matter. Keep up the good work homie! Your killing it!

Dreams premier in Alexandria, LA

Last night Safehaven skatepark in Alexandria, Louisiana was nice enough to host a screening of the new version of my DVD “Dreams” Me & Mickey Gaidos (filmier/editor/best friend) rolled out to the premier to show our faces & even do a demo for the crowd before & after the movie was showed. This crowd was very stoked to have us come out! Even the Mayor of the city was there to watch so that was awesome!

Pretty big crowd that watched & the film looked amazing on the big projector screen.

My sponsor Raising Canes even came & set up a booth! Which later on ended up being the autograph signing table. Kids seemed to be very inspired by the film so that was Rad!!

I brought out a ton of Terry Cane Fan shirts to give out to the crowd. They loved the shirts & most people left the premier wearing the. Thanks to Canes for making these dope shirts for me!

My sponsor Red Bull sent out the Wing Teams girls to come support the event & pass out some energy to the kids. Thanks to Scott Lopker & Catherine Dinan for hooking that up. Okay.. That is enough updates for today. I am going for a ride.

This week I did a demo for my old 5th grade school. It was amazing to me that I rode my BMX bike in the lunch room on stage for the talent show 15 years ago at the same school.

I spoke to the kids about following their dreams and never giving up.. I was super stoked on this demo and pretty sure the kids were as well.. I am in NC at the moment doing some demos for Red Bull.. I will post some updates from the trip real soon.. Thanks guys!

My trip to France for the FISE!

I just returned from France for the FISE contest. I must say this contest must be bigger then the X-Games & Dew Tour in the USA. The Crowd is so big and get so loud for the riders it is seriously one of the best contest in the world. My wife and I had the privilege of taking the journey to the south of France with my great friends Alex & Elodie Jumelin. It was honestly some of the best times of my life & I will never forget the parties, the jokes, and great stories. I have put together a collection of photos from the trip.

When we arrived in France I soon found out that Alex was working on a completely new style. After being being punk rock, gangsta, rapper, gay, and fashion model he has decided to be Wolverine. WOW!

This is his goal… Can he achieve it? I hope so.. keep going bro!

The first day I arrived Alex took me to his personal riding spot. Before he opened the door he reminded me that Tuesdays are flatland school. Wow .. How did I forget that Alex Jumelin has his very own flatland School. I was so stoked to ride with the students and watch their progression!

Th next day we started our 12 hour drive to the Montpellier. The wildest part of the trip is Alex has the only big American truck in France. People look at us like we are naked in this truck. Alex says it may be the only big truck in all of Europe.. wow.. It was memories I will never forget. One time Alex slammed the brakes on the truck & I flew across the seat while sleeping & cut my knee.. OWWWW.

This was the view out the window. It was the most beautiful land I had ever seen. Grassy mountain tops with Castles & stone houses for the entire drive!

When we arrived at the contest location of course it was raining and qualifications was postponed until the next day. It was ok for us because it meant more fun & partying for that night.

Every night Vanessa & Elodie dressed up and we headed to the parties. It was some super ghetto times with drinking in the streets and clubin till sunrise but it was super awesome.

Every party night would end with a big Hug from Alex. Thanks for being the greatest friend in the world bro.. I cherish the long talks, endless practice sessions, and great parties we have had.

Finally the day of the contest arrived. I made the final with one of the best runs of my life. The finals had thousands of people watching & it was an honer to be in the top 8. Although Moto took me out in my first battle I was super stoked on how I rode with no touches and fist pumps to the crowd!

I was super stoked that my good friend Daniel Dhers stopped over to the flatland course to watch a little flatland. Its great to have someone like Daniel that supports all forms of BMX. Thanks homie for the respect of flatland and your roots of BMX. Keep tweet’in..

Daniel even got a little session on my bike and showed that he had some flat skill as well. Funky chicken..

Stoked to be on the flatland area.. Lovin’ BMX life.

After the comp we headed back to Paris & my last day was spent watching Alex’s two sons ride with him in front of his home. You can see that Gabon already has the skills from his dad. So cute..

Nathan is Alex’s oldest son. Already learning tricks, learning English, & loving the ladies..

I wanted to dedicate this blog update to Alex. Thanks for everything homie. You are the perfect family man and a rider I will always look up to. Honored to have you as a friend. Congrats to Matthias once again for killing the competition.. And thank you Uchiee for making me laugh until my stomach hurts.

I just returned from Joplin, MO for the Jomopro contest. I ended up getting 5th place and was super stoked to be apart of the event. My boy and Red Bull teammate Matthias Dandois won the contest with a crazy new trick. 180 whooper to pegwheelie! Congrats again homie! Above is a photo of me fist pumping after a crazy combo. I get so stoked in comps! haha..

After the Jomopro contest I headed to Chicago to do some gorilla style demos for the Cubs game. Red Bull hooked me up with this crazy Cubs jersey to wear while I rode. The Cubs Fans were stoked for sure. I had a blast pedaling through the streets.

After a full day of demos I ending up filming an epic web edit with my boy Buck that will hit the internet very soon. We filmed it in a very nice location and the video is going to be sick. I can’t wait to drop this edit.

6 day trip to trip to St. Lucia !

Me and my wife Vanessa just returned home from a 6 day trip to

the beautiful island of St. Lucia. We visited the rain forest, enjoyed the beaches , and relaxed at one of the best resorts in the area. It was truly amazing!

The 1 hour drive to the resort was unreal. Going up mountain tops that looks like a jungle out of a movie.

We stayed in a room that over looked the Ocean, ate great food, and slept on the beach everyday. So very relaxing indeed!

After returning from our vacation trip I had the Ganji flatland crew stop by for a hardcore backyard session. They slept in tents in my backyard for 2 nights. It was great getting to chill with some old friends and share my backyard spot with some of the most talented riders in the U.S.

Trip to NYC for the grand Openeing of the Red Bull Arena!

I just returned home from NYC for the Grand opening of the new RedBull Soccer Arena. Red Bull flew out a shit ton of their Athletes including Shecklar, Bohan, Reggie Bush, and even Lindsay Vonn. This photo above is all the athletes as we walked into the stadium for the first time. Stoked to be on the Red carpet with these guys for sure. This trip was super dailed. Check the photos!

As I walked into my hotel room they had this super rad jersey laying on my bed. RedBull made all the athletes custom jerseys with our names on them to cheer on the “Red Bull New Yorkers” with Style.

Before the game started I busted a demo out in of front the arena while the huge crowd waited to get in.

The game was awesome! A Freaking Red Bull car drove on the field and Lindsay Vonn handed off the ball to start the game! Of Course our team took home the win on their home turf against Brazil ! Dope!

And the raddest mustache out of 25,000 spectators goes to my mate… Corey Bohan. lol

Next stop…. St. Lucia for my anniversary trip with my wife. Photos will come after I get back.

Demos in South Padre Island,TX for Springbreak

I just returned from South Padre Island TX. I was there doing demos for Red Bull and it was nuts. thousands of spring breakers came from all over to party. I was right in middle of all the parities. Performing in night clubs, on the streets, and even pool side. I must say…. It was wild..

Everyday before my demos started I began the day with a nice back rub. Thanks to the Red Bull for hooking that up.

At one of the club shows that had a little bikini contest.. If you are wondering who took the win… It was the second girl on the end…. I am now back at home preparing for my next trip. I am headed to New York on Friday. Look for another update next week!

Back to Mexico!!

This week I headed back to Mexico to shoot for a TV program, bust some demos, and perform for a crowd of 40,000 people! It was a crazy trip & story to tell for sure! Please read along to see what happened.

In the mix of filming for a huge TV program we traveled all over Mexico City into small towns to perform in front of the most popular areas. It was awesome!

On the way to a wild photo shoot we got pulled over on a dirt road by a Mexican cop. Apparently we were speeding. It was super scary to be in the Van because our driver was a speed devil!

We ate at a ton of great places.. Unfortunately I became very sick after eating the meal you see above. I was so sick they sent a doctor to my hotel room. He told the organizers of the event that I needed to go directly to the hospital to get a shot. After I got the the shot I spent a full 30 hours in my hotel trying to get better.

It was crazy going into the hospital to get the shot injection because I was the only person in the entire place. I was nervous to take the Mexican medicine but they assured me it was ok. :)

I went to the hospital 2 days in a row to get the shot just to make sure I would have my strength back to perform at the big show that would happen on the last day.

Before the big show I met up with these kids that were super stoked to watch me ride. I signed all their bikes & shirts before I headed off to get ready for the big performance.

That night I performed for 40,000 people! It was by far the biggest crowd I had rode for. It was rad! They had Sky divers, B boys, airplanes, singers, trail riding, and myself were all apart of the big show. Thanks to Red Bull Mexico for hooking up this awesome experience. Also Thanks to Robby Klein for coming along to shoot some amazing photos that you guys will see soon!

I am on my way home from Guadalajara, Mexico where I was a guest judge & did a demo for the Red Bull Street Style event. I also had a chance to meet up with the local flatland riders in the city. I shot a couple iphone photos from my trip. Please enjoy.

This is one of the riders that showed up to ride with me. I was told he found out I was in town and just walked out of his high school and rode his bike 1 hour to the riding spot where I was at. He definitely was really talented and had only been riding 6 months!

This is my good friend Gabo from Guadalajara. He is a great family guy, a hardcore rider, and the coolest guy in the entire city! Thanks Gabo for coming out to the session!

After the session the local riders took me through a crazy ride through the city were we were weaving in and out of traffic. It was pretty much insane. But I had a blast!

Red Bull Fight with Flight wrap up..

Well the contest is over and it was blast. I ended up sneaking my way into the Finals after my brake locked up in Prelims. I managed to pull a couple of tricks and was stoked to be apart of the finals. At first I was told I was battling Matthias with the bracket system because he qualified 1st and I qualified 8th.. Right before the contest started I was then told I qualified 7th and would be battling Matt Wilhelm. When the finals started Matthias was the first battle with Moto from Japan. It was a crazy battle because Moto rode so well that he beat my young french friend. It was wild because I have never watched Matthias loose a battle so early in a competition. I was the second battle and thought I had a great chance of beating Matt for the first battle, But I must admit.. he was on fire! He beat me hands down. Congrats boy! He wound up winning every battle after me and taking the win for the entire contest!

The Finals had a packed crowd and the energy was super high! It was rad to apart of the contest for sure! Congrats to James Newton, Jake Jackson, & Alan Young for putting on an amazing flatland contest!

I arrived in Indianapolis on Thursday for the Red Bull fight with Flight contest. This year this event is going to be awesome. So many great riders showed up and everything looks very well organized as well. Yesterday me and my great friend & Red Bull team mate Matthias Dandois went to School and performed for a bunch of middle school kids. They were stoked! After the demo I spent the entire day filming an edit with Matt Wilhem for Dans comp, Shooting photos & videos for Red Bull and then of-course the pre-jam was also going on at the contest location. I counted like 70 riders busting out! I am very stoked to see a turn-out like this in the USA. Flat is back! The contest is today so I am headed to venue!

Crazy demos in Buffalo, NY

I just returned from Buffalo a couple days ago where I finished off 2009 with some wild Red Bull demos. The first set of demos where located in a ball room with a formal dinner to follow. It was pretty rad to ride in a setting where everyone was dressed to impress. After the ball room shows we headed over to Buffalo’s hottest club..(PURE).. riding, drinks, girls, dancing and fun followed the night!

The club was packed! Just enough room for me to ride! A ton of booty popin went down on that floor before & after I rode. It was pretty much insane. The ladies in Buffalo like to get low!

The night ended with me arm wrestling this random guy for his VIP section. I lost the battle as well as the spot. On the way back to the hotel I dropped my cell phone at a rest stop in the snowy/muddy parkenlot. Luckily Josh from RB was nice enough to bring me back to retrieve my phone. Sorry for peeing on your truck homie! See you guys in 2010!!

Crazy week… Parties, demos, and another house..

This past week has been so wild.. I attended a special Red Bull party in New Orleans for Reggie Bush “formal NFL Saints player. It was super rad to walk the Red Carpet with him and the other Red Bull Athletes. Red Bull mixing their action sports guys with the main stream athletes!

After parting it up in New Orleans I ended up in Virginia Beach doing some demos for Red Bull at one of their accounts that was located on an army base. I ended up meeting some really cool folks and was able to hand out some Terry Adams Raising Canes T-shirts in between the shows.

In the mix of all the crazy fun this week I also put in an offer on another investment home that is a couple miles from my house. I just found out the offer was accepted so I am pretty excited. My good friend Justin Miller and riding buddy will be coming out from Saginaw, Michigan to work on the house to get it rent ready. Maybe he will bring his bike and we can get in some sessions. If so… You know I will keep you posted!

Today my boy Mickey Gaidos came over for a session at my home spot. Mickey is a big reason I began riding flatland and I owe a ton of thanks to him for that. I met Mickey when I was 12 years old and since that day we have been obsessed with riding with each other for so many reasons. I could blab for days about why we love riding with each other. The obvious reason is that we know that flatland has brought us together. It’s very crazy to think that because of a 20 inch bike you can find a life long friend. That is exactly what happened with me and Mickey. We both know that we owe thanks to flatland for our awesome friendship and it shows in every session we have. We have had so many memorable sessions through-out our friendship. We will roll out “anytime” of “anyday” to meet up and ride. That is how it has always been and always will be. We have ridden and watched the sun rise, ridden when we were too tired to walk, and the best sessions were when we rode

and then talked about our love for flatland.

Mickey is by far one of the most talented riders on the planet. I have always admired his love for flatland because he seemed to be driven by the challenge of the trick. I have watched him pull more tricks than I will ever learn. He will learn a trick simply to get feeling of pulling something new. I am pretty sure he is addicted to that feeling and that is the reason he is the the most progressive rider I will ever know. I wanted to throw him a special thanks in this post for all times he rolled out to share that beautiful feeling of flatland with me. Most importantly I wanted to thank him for all the years of motivation and all the years of friendship. When the session calls….. We will be there…. Until the end….

I flew into Chicago last night because Redbull was throwing a party at their new office. I spent the day hanging out, doing a little flatland, and shooting some photos for a local Chicago magazine. It was yet again another fun trip on list for 2009. Right now I am chilling in my hotel starting to pack for my 7:00 a.m flight that heads back to Louisiana.. ahhh.. Gotta get some sleep tonight!

Sorry for the late update but I have been on a really crazy schedule traveling all over the midwest doing a ton of College tours for Red Bull. It has been a month jammed packed with with nothing but traveling but I have been loving every second of it. Since it would take forever to talk about every trip I am going to talk about my favorite one so far. I just did some demos around Detroit, Michigan yesterday and then I had Justin Miller take about a 2 hour drive to come pick me up so I could spend some time with him and his family back in the good ol’ town of Saginaw. Now this was a very special trip for me for many reasons. I have traveled all over the world with Justin and It was always a dream of mine to see his home town and visit his family. I also had a dream of riding with him at his personal riding spot. I also just purchased an investment house in his home town so it was really awesome to check it out before it gets rented out. Thanks to Justin & Cris for showing me around the Nasty! I love you guys!

Incredible feeling

Well.. The contest for this year are basically over. So today I went out for a different kind of session. A progression session. I will be the first to admit that spending all these years making sure my tricks are dialed for contest has sometimes put a damper on on the progression side of my riding. I would also like to say that I have really enjoyed the training it took to stay consistent in contest as well. Not too mention riding has just always felt better to me if I was able to pull all my tricks 90% of the time and not worry so much about learning this everything under the sun. Of-course that was my personal choice and its not for every rider.

Anyway… That is not what this story is about.. It is about the feeling I received from today’s riding session. Yesterday I went out with the intention of learning something new, fresh, & original. About 15 minutes into the session I found myself flat on back with a bruised knot on my arm the size of a tennis ball. I was very frustrated to say the least. I decided to cancel the session and wait until today to continue my mission of a new trick, switch, or whatever.

Last night I was laying in bed around 11:30 thinking of a possible trick. The crazy part about this is, I was doing to same thing when I was 11 years old. Laying in bed dreaming of what tricks I could try when the sun came up. Last night I smile came to face for 2 reasons. The first reason is because I realized how long flatland has consumed my life and how I am very proud of that. The second reason I smiled is because I thought of a trick that I might be able to do. The trick is not even worth mentioning because it was not some big original banger that was going to impress everyone. It was a simple trick that I somehow thought I would have the skill to do. It was actually kind of difficult to get to sleep. I wanted to try it!

It is sometimes more difficult for me to think of a new trick then to actually learn it. I guess doing the same contest combos all year long also puts a damper on my creative thinking.

So today I went out for the session and of course the first trick I attempted was the one that was on my mind. After about 10 tries it was mine. Not just mine because I am sure over a 1,000 people can do it. But you know what I mean. I learned it just from a thought in my head. It gave me the same feelings I had at age 13 when I learned a new position on my bike. Pedaling around in my backyard I started to think……. That was such an incredible feeling and even more incredible that I have had that feeling from flatland countless times over the course of 15 years! I hope I get that same feeling many more times to come. I am so thankful for this life and so thankful that I found something as special as flatland.

Well.. Voodoo Jam is over and it was amazing! I am really stoked on how the event turned out! Thanks to everyone that helped me and Scott with the contest! Also a huge thanks to my sponsor Raising Canes for supporting Voodoo Jam this year! I can honestly say it was one of the best contest in the world and I have attended many of them. The crowd was very large, the riding level was amazing, and the presentation of the finals was the best! I wound up getting 3rd place and getting a spot on the podium. I am stoked!

Update from the Voodoo Jam sessions!

Last night I took the Japanese riders to my indoor spot for a late night riding session! It was pretty funny. They were not happy at first with the slippery surface so they hand cleaned the entire floor. The floor was perfect after that and we had a really cool session. Today we are back at my house just chilling and getting ready for another late night practice session. Mickey Gaidos and Bobby Carter are now in route to my house because of-course they will join the fun riding tonight! O yeah, I almost forgot. Before we ride tonight Vanessa is cooking some New Orleans style Jambalayla for everyone!

Today Hiroshi and Youhei along with 2 other riders arrived in New Orleans for the Voodoo Jam. I took them to eat at Raising Canes and now we are back at my house just chilling. Maybe going out for a session if they want. Riders from all parts of the globe are already invading the city getting ready for the final stop of the world circuit!

The Japanese riders brought me some gifts from the land of the rising sun. Stoked!

Results, Club demo, and now sick at home

Well I made it to the finals which was head to head battles and wound up winning my first battle against Hiro, My second battle was against some Japanese rider I had never heard of. I rode really good with only 1 touch and I guess the judges thought he rode better than me. I lost that battle and wound up getting 7th place. But honestly I rode so well I was just stoked on my run and now getting super pumped for the finals in new Orleans!

After the conest was over and Matty was crowned the winner we went to a club in Kanazawa where we had a world battle planned. The battle was between me, Viki, Mathias, against York and Hiro. The club was packed watching the battle and we won over the crowds applause and took the title for the world battle! We beat the Japan team!

After the Club shows York and I headed directly to the airport to drop me off. He decided to stop off on the way to end my trip with a relaxing talk at the Katmasu river beach front. The trip really made me realize just how special it is to have friends all over the world that will take care of you. Thanks York for everything.

I returned home on Monday and I came down with a very bad sickness. I am guessing it was from all the traveling, riding, and maybe not drinking enough water. So right now I have a bad fever, hot and cold chills, and very weak stomach and along with a bunch of other illnesses I would rather not speak of. So now I have canceled my trip to Chicago and my plan is to get well and prepare for Voodoo Jam! 10 more days to the last stop of the flatland world Circuit! See you there!

KOG contest update

I just walked out to the hotel to go resister for the contest and they had over 100 riders at the practice area.!! pretty insane how big flatland is in Japan. Congrats to Yasu, York, Takashi, and everyone else that has been organizing the King Of Ground contests here in Japan over the last 10 years. They have really done an excellent job on keeping riders motivated and growing the scene in their country. Walking to the registration booth I met some girl riders and a little kid rider!

Yesterday Red Bull Japan organized a filming trip for all the Red Bull flatland riders.. We found some crazy spots and had some funny sessions. Red Bull Japan should be making a web edit of the trip soon. I will make sure to post it when it is available. I hung out with Martti all day and shared stories about life, Michael Jackson, and the future of flat!

Marriage, Radio, Demos, & France—Oh My!

Well, the big news is that I’m married! Vannessa and I tied the knot this past Friday at the Louisiana Castle in Franklinton, Louisiana and we couldn’t be happier. The wedding was small, but really nice and a handful of close friends made it out to celebrate with us.

A few weeks ago while in Austin, Texas doing demos Red Bull hooked me up with The Morning Show With Jason and Deb on 101X. CLICK HERE or the photo below to hear my segment from that show…

Right now I’m on my honeymoon in Jamaica where I’m soaking up the sun for a few more days. Just a few hours after I get back I fly to Dallas for some demos. Then a few hours after I get back from that I fly out to Monaco for the Riviera Ninja Spin contest that my good friend Alex Jumelin is putting on. I can’t wait! Expect an update when I get back from France!

New Video…Riding On An Airplane Wing!

I just dropped my latest video today. I filmed it while I was in Indianapolis this past January at the Red Bull Fight With Flight contest. It shows me riding on the wing of an airplane! Definitely one of the craziest places I have ever ridden!

Also, I got back from doing Red Bull demos in Chicago today then went straight from the airport to Houma, Louisiana and did a demo at the grand opening of a new Raising Cane’s restaurant. It was really awesome out there and I got to sign a bunch of autographs for the fans!

I’m in Paris right now working on a really cool photo shoot. Can’t say much about it right now, but be on the lookout!

Also, I’m going to be doing Red Bull demos in Dallas so I can’t make it to the Jomopro flatland contest in Missouri on April 4th, but I want to encourage all the flatland riders out there to go to this thing! This contest is going to be amazing for the U.S. flatland scene!

A local soccer team at Southern Louisiana University needed uniforms so I teamed up with Raising Cane’s to help them out! The team will be sporting Terry Adams Flatland / Raising Cane’s shirts to all of their games this year! They will also be slamming back some Red Bulls to help keep them energized! Watch out!

Indy Weekend

I had a busy weekend in Indianapolis and now I’m home for a while. I am super pumped on winning the first contest of the year and real stoked on how the Red Bull Fight With Flight event turned out. You can check out some photos and videos from the event on ridebmx.com.

In addition to riding in the contest while I was there I also shot an article for BMX Plus! magazine with Ben Crocket, filmed two videos with Fat Tony, shot some photos with Fat for my sponsors, and helped Fat put on a photo clinic to teach students how to shoot flatland photos.

It was awesome to see everyone this weekend and meet a bunch of new people…see you guys next time!

I’ll be hitting up my first contest of the year at the end of the month in Indianapolis. It’s a cool contest held in an airplane hangar of some sort. Should be interesting to see how it all goes down.

I’m also doing a secret video/photo shoot while I’m there so that should turn out rad. I’ll post more info about that when it all comes together.

I just posted a quick update in my coverage section. In this month’s Ride BMX I have a 2-page interview for winning the NORA Cup.

Also, I just had a video premiere for my movie Dreams in Houston. Huge thanks to Hector at The Byke Project for putting it together and my sponsors for helping out. And in just a few hours I’m off to Idaho to do some more demos, then next week I’ll be doing some demos in Dallas.
